With the release of Skyway Builder 6.2 approaching, there are a bunch of new features that will be very compelling to new and existing users of Skyway Builder.  Many Skyway community members have had direct involvement with the new features, and Skyway Builder has benefited from the community giving us open and honest feedback.  Our ability to produce a very high-quality and feature-rich development tool for Spring can be directly attributed to many avid users sharing their experiences with using Skyway Builder to develop a wide range of Spring-based applications.  While the interest and feedback on Skyway Builder 6.1 has been excellent, I am very eager to get the news out on the new features of Skyway Builder 6.2.  While these features can all be found in the Skyway JIRA system, which is open to all registered Skyway community members, this series of posts will be informative to the broader community.

I’ll start by announcing that Skyway Builder 6.2 will be delivered for both the open source and commercial versions of Skyway Builder.  In the past, each release was targeted at either Community Edition (open source) or Enterprise Edition.  We found that focusing one edition simplified our development and QA processes.  The unfortunate side effect was that at any point in time one group of Skyway Builder users was feeling left behind.  If we did a Community Edition release, the Enterprise Edition users wouldn’t be able to immediately benefit from the Community Edition improvements.  If we did an Enterprise Edition release, the Community Edition users didn’t immediately have access to bug fixes to Community Edition code that were fixed as part of the Enterprise Edition release.

So in the same spirit as our No Developer Left Behind program, we tweaked our development processes to be able to deliver both editions of Skyway Builder at the same time.  Starting with Skyway Builder 6.2, the Community Edition and Enterprise Edition are now in sync.  As always….Skyway Builder 6.2 Enterprise Edition builds on top of the Community Edition, and it adds additional automation, code generation and integration.
