Install Skyway Builder Community Edition - Pulse

Skyway Visual Perspectives and Pulse

From the authors of MyEclipse, Genuitec's Pulse is a free service that streamlines the installation and distribution process for Eclipse-based software. Pulse alleviates the complexity of managing Eclipse-based tools whether commercial, free or mixed, by blending tool solutions into individualized software distributions (customized profiles) that users can create for their own use and/or share with others.

Why Does Pulse Matter for Developers?
If you use Eclipse-based tools, you've already experienced the work involved in environment setup, configuration, update and maintenance over time. Cobbling tools has been, until now, a necessary evil, but with Pulse need not be a worry. Typically, organizations have a designated “toolsmith” who is tasked with finding and configuring all the right tools for the job. After this person finds all of their needed components, they then post a wiki page or other configuration document to instruct all of the developers on the team in how to get up and running. This is not only time consuming, but error-prone.

Pulse alleviates not only the toolsmith's woes, but also the pain of maintenance. With a built-in sharing ability, multiple tool profiles can be distributed within an organization, with all dependencies and compatibility considerations handled by Pulse.

How Does Pulse Work with Skyway Visual Perpsectives?
Pulse simplifies access to Skyway Visual Perspectives and other Eclipse-based tooling. As a registered Pulse user (registration is free), you can customize your tool profiles to include Skyway Visual Perspectives and other tools. Just drag-and-drop solutions built with Skyway Visual Perspectives onto your chosen profile, and Pulse will automatically download and incorporate these tools into your existing tool stack.

While most common tools are found in the Pulse catalog, there may be a few you use that are not included yet. Not a problem. You can still add these tools to your profile. Go ahead and create a profile that's close to what you want and launch it. Once running, you can add your custom features using the standard Eclipse update manager. Your local additions will be included whenever you run the configured profile.

How Do I Get Started?
Pulse is compatible with Windows, Linux and Macintosh systems. The initial bootstrap client is 5MB, and Pulse will download your necessary software from there based on your profile setup and the software you have selected.  Getting up and running is easy:

1. Visit http://www.poweredbypulse.com/download.php
2. Download the Pulse bootstrap
3. Choose your base profile (including Skyway Visual Perspectives, for example)
4. Registration is required for customization
5. Explore the software catalog and begin building your profile with drag-and-drop ease
